Here We Go...

Hey everyone,

Well Jason and I have been married for about 3 1/2 wonderful weeks now, and during that time, I have to say that I have made some excellent food for him to eat. It's weird because I wasn't sure how I was going to do with the whole cooking thing, but I have really gotten into it! I love planning ahead what we're going to eat for the next week, going shopping to get all the ingredients, and making a really great meal each night. It's one of my most favorite things I've ever done before, and I had no idea that it would be! I have to give credit to the place where I've found most of these recipes - Martha Stewart's Everyday Food Magazine, as well as this wonderful blog my friend Kelly told me about - The Pioneer Woman.

So speaking of blogs, I've gotten hooked on reading lots and lots of them. You can see the list on my profile on here. As I'm reading them, Jason has been asking me, "So when are you going to start yours?" My first reaction was that I was never going to have a blog - I didn't think anyone would be interested in reading what I had to write. But the more I read and thought about it, I realized it would be an excellent way to keep our family and friends up to date with what's going on in our new life together. And, if anyone else gets enjoyment out of reading it, that's great too!

So I have a blog now. And yes, the title of this blog is supposed to be clever - we love the famous actor Jimmy Stewart. One of Mr. Stewart's most famous movies is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Jason and I happen to live on Washington Street. I thought it was funny, but I'm not sure if anything that requires that much explanation actually is funny... Anyway, I'm sticking with it because I like it!

Now to end this post, I'm going to leave you with a few pictures from our honeymoon... I don't think anyone has seen any of these yet, so enjoy! By the way, it's a lot more difficult to have pictures as a couple taken on your honeymoon than I realized it would be. This is one of only a few pictures we have of the two of us, and most of the rest are taken by me... and other people never quite take them the way you were hoping!

But anyway, this is our hotel, The Athenaeum in the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. It is big and beautiful and old, and it was the first hotel to have electric lights in it. It was also very wobbly and the floors looked like roller coasters because they were so warped. BUT we loved every inch of it!

This is the massive, unbelievable, outdoor pipe organ. We heard some amazing things played on this organ, and later I'll try to upload some of the videos we took of it.

This is where we ate breakfast every morning - so beautiful and peaceful!

Well that's it for now! Much more to come soon. Now I'm off to meet my lovely husband for lunch!

  1. How Exciting for you Kelli! (Married life- not the blog,... but that too.) I will be glad to follow your blog as you settle into our lovely state of PA. I know what you mean about having others take your photo. I always look for someone who has a nicer camera than mine, that way I figure they won't be inclined to steal mine, and if they're that into photography, they can at least frame a decent shot!

  2. Kelli and Jason - I love reading about two adventerous teachers that live on Washington Street. I do believe that this blog is the best I have read, although I confess it is only the third blog I have ever read...but still the best! The pictures are beautiful as are both of you! And...I especially like the advice of Barbaranne...in the future get someone with a really good camera to take your pictures, now thats good advice! Much love to both of you and God bless. Much love, Gerri
